I make it a point only to tell people about my radio appearances AFTER I have been on the show in the event that the show ends up being an unmitigated disaster. Well clearly my appearance on Air America wasn't an unmitigated disaster and I actually got to talk about MOW.You can listen to the show (my interview starts at 20:40 and is eight minutes):
One of the first questions is "Is Michelle Obama Raising the bar for African ... Read More

Posted by SjP of Sojourner’s Place. Looks like Vanessa Grigoriadis’s article, Black and Blacker reported on here at MOW and Sojourner’s Place continues to be the topic of discussion among bloggers. Blogger Maria Niles, shares her thoughts on the article at PopConsumer and Blogher.com . And over at What About Our Daughters , you'll find the article broken down like a fraction.

The news on the blogs (so far) is Michelle appearing on and in Radar magazine. Some of their views on it:
Mind Relaxing Ideas thinks of the article's subheadline, "With this premature announcement/proclamation, Radar Magazine has showed positively their cards on the table."
Pop Crunch's description of the cover: "you’ll find a snapshot of Michelle Obama, staring you down as she strikes a serious pose on the cover of the glossy."
Film Gordon says the cover "features one of the ... Read More

Posted by SjP from Sojourner's Place. This article entitled Black & Blacker: The Racial Politics of the Obama Marriage from the New York Magazine attempts to discuss how race and politics interplay within the Obama marriage. While an intriguing concept and title, the article falls short as its author, Vanessa Grigoriadis, seems to be somewhat obsessed by and with Michelle's appearance, education, professional achievements, and her commitment to her marriage and family.
Having read and re-read this article several times, however, I think the point that ... Read More

Posted by SjP of Sojourner's Place. With over 65,000 blog entries for Michelle Obama popping up today, it appears that most are a day late and a dollar short to the news that broke here first. Yes, Michelle will be kicking off the Democratic National Convention as reported by MOW yesterday!
But, the blogs remain abuzz with the wife of the presumptive Democratic Nominee, watching her every move, her speeches, and probably even her thoughts. Here are just a few snippets of today's the ... Read More

Michelle Obama will be the keynote speaker/prime time speaker on the opening night of the Democratic National Convention on August 25, 2008. MOW will be in the house since our Admin has been credentialed to blog the convention. The following is from a press release sent out this afternoon by the DNCC press office.
“The 2008 Convention will highlight Americans coming together to change the course of this nation,” said Kansas Governor and Convention Co-Chair Kathleen Sebelius. “We are at a ... Read More

I can't believe I just typed the word "dickipedia."
That aside, I'm with The Atlantic's Ta-Nehisi Coates on this. Look, I'm not a huge "sacred cows" kind of person. No one, in my book, is above a good clowning every now and again.
But like the enormous satire FAIL that was that July New Yorker cover, this is the issue: if you're going to be funny, there's one rule - BE FUNNY.
This mess is not funny. At all. Read More

Posted by Carmen D. All About Race - Quick Blog Round Up: Michelle Obama Visits Military Spouses In Norfolk, Virginia
"Michelle Obama visited with Virginia military spouses this morning in Norfolk, Virginia, where she participated in a roundtable discussion and learned about the challenges these military spouses face: balancing work, family and regular relocations, while also coping with their loved ones serving in the military far from home."

The LA Times' blog, "Top of the Ticket," gives its view on Michelle swerking the magazine covers here lately. I'm hating the lede, though.
John McCain might have a point when he calls Barack Obama a "celebrity candidate." After all, the Illinois Senator is married to one of America's most popular cover girls.
You better be ready for a lot of her in coming days.

Much has been made of Swift Boat leader and uber-conservative writer Jerome Corsi's new book, The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality. Just like his 2004 Kerry-bashing book, Unfit for Command, Corsi's book is filled with unsubstantiated claims and false attacks against Barack Obama, and he doesn't fail to take a few swipes at Michelle while he's at it.
According to Huffington Post, he's retreading the same old, tired smears certain folks have been spreading around the blogosphere ... Read More
