I’m right there with Rikyrah…they done lost their ever-loving minds!

This magazine piece that is a parody of the US magazine cover, with its awful “Michelle Obama: Why Barack Loves Her.” If you don’t like the jokes, that’s fair, but taking one image out of context is lazy and hyperbolic.

Your interest in tracking real misogyny and racism aimed at Michelle Obama is admirable, but you have overreacted here. And the inability to separate news from parody weakens your overall argument.

Criticism is not an insult. It’s too bad you can’t engage in debate without being defensive. Bringing up your race, not to mention Arianna’s, highlights the weakness of your argument. And for you to respond to a comedy site with this phrase:

“A clear cry for attention. They are about to get all they can handle.”

is over the top and waters down the legitimate criticism aimed at MSNBC, etc. But it makes for lots of controversy. The blog “What About Our Daughters” probably sent you a huge amount of traffic this week, which is good for you, too. Good luck!

I can’t understand how someone who engages in parody and satire is somehow so offended by us not finding this funny or being offended.

As far as race, YOU don’t get to declare how I feel about that. Which is kind of the point of the blog. MSM will engage in sexist and racist behavior and not give it a second thought.

I didn’t call the Magazine parodies racists or sexist or homophobic. I just said they were not funny and a whole lot of people would likely not share your sense of humor. Regarding blog traffic, THIS ISN”T A CORPORATE BLOG!!!! If two people read fine. If 2 million people read FINE! IT does not matter. The hosting has already been paid for. Whether you like it or not, depicting Michelle Obama toting a gun is not funny to a lot of people in any context.

I find it hysterical that YOU are being defensive an calling ME defensive.

You clearly were attempting to get a reaction to your photoshopped covers. So don’t be upset because the reaction wasn’t what you wanted doesn’t mean you have to call us hyperbolic.

I brought up race because you don’t even see how patronizing you are to come to this blog telling us what we are allowed to take offense at. Again, just because you are liberal or a Democrat or whatever you are, I don’t know, does not grant you wholesale immunity. Most people will have forgotten about the post by Monday morning so again, why the desire to control other people’s thoughts and ideas.

You perhaps need to do some self examination regarding why this matters so much to you. This post is almost off of the front page. You appear to be the only person upset about it.

Some folks said they care, others didn’t . People are far more interested in Why Black feminists and White feminists don’t seem to be getting along and I think this entire exchange is EXHIBIT A. A clear lack of respect.

I’m neither “upset” nor “offended.” You’re the one responding with all-caps and five explanation points like a 14 year old MySpace blogger. To me, it seems that while you comfortable levying critique at other sites, you are unprepared for the same scrutiny. Just as you are watching, you are being watched. Also, please don’t pretend that you don’t want as many hits as possible, or that you would turn down an opportunity to appear on the very cable networks you critique, given the chance to make your point.

Might I add that I went back to the original post at Huffpo to see why Laurie had a bee in her bonnet and irony of ironies, there are more comments on THIS blog than there are on HuffPo. She ought to be glad someone is paying attention to her efforts. ONEIN4 Laurie probably doesn’t even know or care about the One Citizen controversy. One Citizen doesn’t even know how much of a controversy because the controversy was segregated to Black-oriented publications like ESSENCE and The Root.

That is why I am so offended that she would come over here telling us we can’t be offended. She clearly is ignorant of the controversy related to photoshopping Michelle’s head on other people’s bodies. Or either they KNEW and decided to do it to stoke controversy Which is why I was like “they HAVE to be doing this for attention”

They HAD to know after that One Citizen controversy that this would not be viewed as funny to lots of people. Although I could understand if some people did find it funny. That is why I asked…I this funny to you?

Oh now I want to be on cable news and an trolling for page clicks. Sorry those are your values not mine. If i wanted page clicks, I would start a blog about Britney Spears or Beyonce. So now because I don’t agree with you, you lodge personal attacks. There has to be something else going on here other than one post over an idiotic series of parodies. Nobody is commenting on. I am a bit annoyed because I actually engage in hyperbole on occasion and I thought this post was rather innocuous. I still don’t understand how this one post saying I don’t find the parody funny and many agree with me warranted the attention of anybody over at the HuffPo.

But I am glad to know you are watching. What bizzare Sunday afternoon developments.

Now Laurie is just trolling for attention. Laurie Seriously, you need to read this article at ESSENCE.com. I don’t think you grasp that the whole photoshop magazine cover issue isn’t just being pulled out of thin air.

These images were not produced by Republicans, but by those who presumably supported Barack Obama. So when I said your parodies would not go over well, I wasn’t just making it up. Read the comments from the readers over on ESSENCE.com. This isn’t funny to a lot of people irrespective of why you did it.

NEWSFLASH: I am white, and I happen to love that website. When I am having a bad day, need a laugh or want to escape – I go there and it makes me laugh.

Sorry but I thought the covers, only one of which you published here, were hilarious. 23/6 is meant to be a humorous site and parodies a lot of folks. I don’t know why Laurie bothered to respond in this defensive manner or why you felt the need to respond. I hear you with what you doing with the site and support your efforts, but in context, I thought this was an overreaction. Of course, it is your site and your allowed to feel however you want. But the Obamas are not deities, and sometimes, people can have a little fun with them. There are WAY more important issues than this to pay attention to.
