I read an interesting comment about Michelle’s Princeton days on another website. The poster talked about how Princeton was one of the last of the Ivies to give up being a place exclusively for white male graduates of East Coast prep schools. He attended Princeton a few years before Michelle, right around the time the university was just beginning to diversify. He says that he felt very alienated and out of place there, even though he is a white male, because he grew up in the Midwest, was from a middle class family, and attended public school. He therefore could completely understand how much more difficult it would have been for Michelle Obama to fit in.
