This is a debate that really needs to stop. Eventhough my initial plan was to work full time forever outside the home after finishing my PhD, I ended up staying home after my daughter was born and I struggled for a couple years about that decision. I worried about letting people down, what would people think...you worked so hard and now you are just staying home. I also struggled a bit personally because I did love my job and I loved working. I won't even go into the differences between working outside the home versus working inside the home. But I do wish we could just stop this. In my opionion, the whole point of the feminist movement was about giving us (all women) the right to choose to work or not and to get equal pay for doing the same jobs are men. It wasn't about saying all women must work outside the home. We all have to decide what works for our families and for us personally. That is the bottom line. I think sometimes we bash other people's choices as a way of making ourselves feel better about the choices we've made or what our life circumstances are. We do this to one another...it comes from both sides. And both sides really need to just stop the nonsense. It is not about better or worse...it is about what works for each family individually.

I think that Michelle is a wonderful role model: educated, spunky, opinionated, stylish, experienced in the workplace, mom. She has explored and is exploring all sides of womanhood. It's refreshing and about time!

Michelle Obama has shown the many facets of being a wife, mother and
career woman. Why should she work outside of the home when her husband is President of the United States? She is intelligent, articulate and able to show a more realistic type of modern mother. I look forward to watching her create "normalcy" in her adorable girls life.
