Again how pathetic and lame are they? Stokley Charmicheal? No one under their 30’s has any idea who he is or why the two draw the comparison. Juan Williams is doing as he always does. Not two months ago he was crying about about how great it was to see michelle up on stage now shes an angry black women again. If shes not patriotic shes too strong if shes too strong shes angry, lame. The fact is america is struggling more with a black first lady than we are with a black president. How to define Michelle, they compare her to the innocent white women of the past who arent nearly as ambitious or educated or the angry black people of the past who have scared white people shitless. Fact is Michelle is the modern day black woman. educated proud god fearing loving family devoted. Wake up people your stigmas and stereotypes are being destroyed infront of your eyes

Tonya, I agree with everything you’ve outlined. In addition, First Lady Michelle Obama is on the verge of becoming a style icon—yet another thing that has the conservatives in a frenzy. A visibly black, Ivy League educated woman without the requisite pathologies, poised to shake up the foundation of an aesthetic that proclaims that “visibly black” black women cannot be beautiful, desirable and—most discomforting for the right-wing—cherished, lauded and admired? First Lady Michelle Obama poses a challenge to the hegemony of white supremacy. For a visibly black woman to achieve the position of First Lady with all of the symbolic and cultural “baggage” that comes with that terrain necessitates a relentless attack on the part of conservatives to insure that white supremacy holds sway. As ridiculous as it sounds, I anticipate that our First Lady will soon be “de-blackened” somehow. (Note that this trend is already underway with the “WeeMichelles”.) The conservatives will attempt to distance her from the masses of black women by redefining her “troublesome” blackness, in order to make her more palatable and less threatening to white supremacy.

Unfortunately, I CAN believe that a black man would make those comments on national TV. I wouldn’t be surprised if some will attempt to scapegoat the first lady if need be (hypothetically, if Obama were to fail on some initiatives).

I figured Michelle would bear the brunt of stereotypical/hateful remarks. She is a visibly black woman. She obviously carries herself with grace and dignity. She did not grow up in the cliche single parent home. She is highly educated. She is married with children born into wedlock.

If you think about the myth of the welfare Queen and how that enthused the republican parties in the 80’s and even helped elect Ronald Regan and you compare that with Michelle Obama and her representation of black woman hood, Michelle is tearing apart the foundation of everything they believe. However, it’s not just conservatives that are attacking Michelle. A lot of liberal’s don’t know how to handle her either. It’s as if, being a loving mother and wife is just an act and people are trying there hardest to chip away at it. The fact that Obama publicly adores her makes it even more difficult to swallow.

Also, I think the comparisons to Jackie O are a little ridiculous. Yes, Jackie O had amazing stye and clearly did a great job at raising her children. However, Michelle is her own woman. I believe she will help set the standard for all first ladies to come.

I despise Bill O’Reilly with a burning passion, and his clone Hannity is right behind him. I cannot mute their big, flapping, biased yaps and offensively pointing fingers fast enough, before rapidly changing channels. The reason O’Reilly’s show is resorting to speculative, trumped-up trash talk is that he has nothing remotely derogatory to report about Michelle or anyone else in the new administration. I hope he loses lots of sleep and lots of viewers over his new dilemma. What a lying tool!

Heck to the NO! The closest thing is “Pretty Ricky.” There aren’t any Black teen groups singing about anything G rated. The days of New edition and Boyz II men is OVA! So yeah if you want wholesome music for your child to listen to, you are going to be hard pressed to find a Black artist that is currently on the charts. MAY-be Beyonce or Rihianna. You even have to be careful with Chris Brown.

I wish people would stop giving them a platform to speak (i.e. Roland Martin on Tom Joyner Morning Show) and let them stay on their pathetic network Faux News and spew their crap over there. Just contain them on one network and don’t let them venture onto other avenues. As for the weeMichelles liking the Jonas Brothers, there’s nothing wrong with that. My daughter, who’s 12, likes all types of music: One Republic, Taylor Swift, Jordin Sparks. I grew up the same way, listening to Duran Duran, Culture Club, New Edition, Michael Jackson and jazz music (yes, I was one of the rare teens who loved jazz-LOL!) And I married a black man. So enjoying a variety of music doesn’t dictate how you will live your life or who you date.

You know, this reminds me of another story that Gina did over at WAOD…the story of Keke Palmer and her trials and tribulations in the music industry. I know she was at the Kids’ Inaugural, as an actress, but if they had meant right by her, she should have been on there as a singer. I’m sad that I’m not totally out of touch. I thought there should be ONE Black singer for our young girls to post on their walls with their youthful crushes.

I don’t have a problem at all with the weeMichelle’s fascination with the Jonas Brothers. Admittedly, I was a bit surprised at their choice, but tickled nonetheless. This may or may not indicate their future relationship choices but either way, it’s fine with me.

If you remember the definition that Malcolm X gave of the House Negro. Juan Williams is the best example… That was very dangerous what he did the other day because there are some whites who love him and the kids but are uncomfortable with her and he just makes things worst…

I don’t think the Obama girls will need the Jonas Brothers to turn them on to interracial relationships if they choose them, since their whole daggone family is interracial. POTUS is biracial, his sister is biracial and married an Asian man so they have an Asian 1st cousin…their uncle Craig is married to a white woman…and that’s just the American side. I think POTUS’ sister Auma may be married to a white man? Sasha and Malia don’t need the Jonas Brothers’ for inspiration.

What’s disturbing is there aren’t any black teen friendly acts. I’d rather have the Obama girls listening to the Jonas Bros. and Hannah Montana than watching Beyonce pop her coochie in the air. It’s one thing if Barack Obama wants to learn the Single Ladies dance so he can get silly with Michelle (the visual of this has me LMAO). It’s an entirely different thing for Sasha & Malia to be grinding and popping their asses in the air like Beyonce. And where are the appropriate black teen groups? The last wholesome one I can remember is Soul For Real.

What 7 adn 10 year olds do you know who are crazy about India Arie? I barely know 30 year olds who like her boring melancholy music. Just cause it’s positive don’t mean it’s kid friendly. And Alicia Keys is too grown. Little girls like princess like singers. If Beyonce weren’t raunchy, she’d be a bit hit amongst the under 13 set.

Fact is, there’s nothing for little black children to listen to, and it’s sad.

Oh and by the way, some of you may recall that Uncle Juan used to work for the Washington Post, I think back in the 1990s. A White female co-worker sued him for sexual harassment. I wonder what happened to the case . . . . . .

As for the weeMichelles liking the Jonas Brothers, I am ALL for it, and HAPPY that they like those decent, clean-cut kids. I have NO problem with them being fans of a group of White boys. What do young (Or ANY) Black male singers have to offer the weeMichelles? Songs calling them every name in the book or telling them that they are not good/pretty as White & Hispanic girls? Is that what they need? I think NOT! And if the weeMichelles grow up to date interracially, I think that would be just wonderful.

I too see no problem with the weeMichelles liking the Jonas Brothers. Truth be told, we don’t have any young, popular Black boy or girl bands out now, especially suitable for Maila and Sasha’s age group. The girls enjoy Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel so naturally they will gravitate toward acts associated with those companies. And it’s not as if they don’t like any Black artists b/c I’ve heard that they are big fans of Keke Palmer (a young, teenage Nick star), the Black folks of High School Musical, Rihanna, and Beyonce. Liking the Jonas Brothers is perfectly acceptable; heck, I was a huge Backstreet Boy fan back in the day and I turned out just fine. Liking the Jonas Brothers won’t, or at least shouldn’t, make then any less Black or pro-black. Whoever gets mad or uncomfortable about this probably already have a skewed view of what’s considered being Black and the line known as “keeping it real”.
