With the unveiling of the official photo of our First Lady, the blogosphere has been on fire with posts about the gorgeous, sculpted arms belonging to one, Mrs. Michelle Obama. For months now, her physique, along with her fashion sense and proposed national policies, have been talked about constantly. Well, now we have the “inside track” to sculpting our own arms to look like Michelle Obama’s. Madison Park of CNN tells us how to do just that in, “How to get Michelle Obama’s toned arms”.
Says Park,
“Those toned arms are becoming a trademark. And a source of inspiration for some women.”
The article goes on to give advice from personal trainer, Rylan Duggan, who runs a blog, Go Sleeveless.
“But personal trainers say arm exercises alone are not enough to get toned arms. First, a person has to get rid of body fat from the body, meaning “you can’t spot reduce and just eliminate fat from the arms,” Duggan said. Also, an exercise program has to target all major muscles of the body. Personal trainer Matthews recommends moderate intensity cardio for 30 minutes, five times a week or vigorous intensity cardio for 20 minutes, three times a week. Both cardio exercises and strength training are needed to speed up metabolism and burn body fat.”
Author Michele Vourliotis of “Amazing Arms: Get Toned Triceps, Beautiful Biceps, and Sexy Shoulders in Just Minutes a Day”, chimes in with some additional advice.
“So how does a normal woman, who doesn’t have a personal trainer or healthy meals from the White House chefs, get tight and taut biceps? For beginners, Vourliotis recommends getting a suitable set of dumbbells (five pounds or more) and doing 12 to 15 of each exercise — bicep curls, tricep kickbacks to exercise the back of the arm, shoulder and lateral raises. Visit the American Council on Exercises library for detailed instructions on these arm exercises. Everyone’s body is different and the definition in the arms can take a while to show, so don’t get discouraged if the results don’t show after just two weeks, trainers said.”
It sounds so simple, doesn’t it? Of course we don’t know Michelle Obama’s exact workout routine. Having toned arms doesn’t happen overnight, however with a little persistence and commitment , it seems plausible that we can have our bodies toned and ready for the bare arms and shoulders season, just like Michelle Obama.
