It's sad to see thing like this still going on in 2009. Since when is it wrong for a woman to stand by her man and be an icon to young girls black and white. Because she's black you mean she wasn't smart enough to get into college on her intelligence, it had to be through affirmative action. My real question to this sad soul is at least she's making a difference, what the hell are you doing but sitting on ur a** and being a jerk. When Bill was in office you saw Hilary just as much because they were a team. Regardless of what you may think a man needs a strong woman to help him and stand by him because he can't do it alone. Morons like this person can only sit around and talk about a beautiful and compare her to a man need to just drop off the face of the earth because you have no real purpose in life.
Michelle keep doing what you are doing because you are such an inspiration.

I just can't stand it when non blacks are always suggesting or believing that a black person only achieves great strides through affirmative action. This is such a degrading thing to say to anyone of color unless it can be proven. It really pisses me off because I know of many blacks who have gotten where they are by breaking their backs working twice as hard as any non black just to get their foot into the doors that are generally closed to them. And for someone to say that it was just handed to them is infuriating, to think that i worked hard for my grades, did extra work to earn my degree and the opportunities that comes with it; just for someone to say that i got it through affirmative action just makes me see "red". What about that thing called "white privilege" and the fact that almost everything is handed to the white male, AND he or she just walks through life without any effort. But if I said that I would be looked at as an angry black woman, and a racist, as well as using unfair stereotypes. I wish to God that Michelle and every other black person out there accused of benefiting from affirmative action would at least call these people out and tell them to put their money where their mouths are. Tell those people to have their grades and g.p.a.'s posted online for the world to see. See if they really earned what they have or if they are the ones who got the walk through life. Compare her grades and those of all others who says she doesn't deserve it. ( I hear that Bush was a C student). Then the world can see who did and didn't deserve their attainments in life.

I hate bigots and racists, it must be tiring to hate all the time 24/7.

I am just so glad that the Obama's choose to ignore over 95% of the negatives comments coming from society, because if they did worry they'd be dead now, worrying themselves to death. And even though I don't think Michelle is the most beautiful woman out there, she definitely doesn't look like James Brown. PEACE

Bev, I understand your sentiment re the Madea character and would agree with it, IF MADEA WERE PLAYED BY AN ACTRESS AND NOT A MAN IN DRAG. Doing it that way makes it a mockery, rather than a tribute to Black women/Black women like Madea, and I think Perry knows that. He ain't slick. Those great women are unsung heros yes, but if you are going to honor them, do it the RIGHT way.

As for what this White trash salope (See a French-English dictionary haha!) said about Queen Michelle. She is just a typical hating White woman. The idiots really can't control themselves now that a sista is first lady!

Sorry Gina...I'll make this last point and then get off-

Earlier on on this thread I wrote:

"The greatest thing about these elections and the Obama presidency is that the masks and hoods all came off and the full beam has been shone steadily and ever so brightly into that rat hole and they are all scampering right out - And from both sides of the aisle too by the way…"

I'd like to add that this ironically includes your democratic governor Ed Rendell Bev;

But a handful of racists within that party does not equate a predominance of said racists in the Republican party...

And when the Clinton wing of the democratic party absconded - you know the hard working white ones and the Lynn de Rothschild's...?! They found a natural home where...? In the established and decidedly racist Republican party where they were guaranteed that such a travesty as a black man being picked over a white anything would never, ever occur...

To Bev: I'm no democrat...never have been; so it figures that unlike you, I've never been bamboozled...and never will be-

I don't listen to talk radio either - those clowns are paid handsomely to keep you guys entertained while dumbing down America by spinning lies, distorting half truths and dangerously inciting the very uneducated and easily manipulated.

I pick my candidates based on their depth of knowledge and smarts, decency, integrity and ability - I picked Barack Obama and by extension his lovely and solid wife Michelle, simply because they met and exceeded every one of these set criteria;

I like and respect Colin Powell a lot...he meets the criteria too - and if he'd ever run, I might have supported him as long as he didn't select a sham running mate such as Ms. Palin or relied on Karl Rove for direction...I suspect he wouldn't have done either - and that's where the integrity bit comes in...

The idea that the unprecedented attacks on Barack and Michelle Obama have more to do with their poltical leanings and ideology and not their race is so naive and bogus!

There is this real and crippling fear amongst the republicans and some in the democratic party that this black President and first lady could actually do an amazing job...and where would that leave their various political ambitions and much touted "legacies"...?! Hence the attempts to undermine, sabotage, denigrate and demean...

Any successful black person or professional gets it! The Obama's will be held to the highest of standards (even those that do not currently exist!) and they will have to be a hundred times better to get a half begrudging acknowledgment...

The Obama's know too well that both their performances in their respective roles will ultimately reflect upon and affect blacks in this country and beyond; including you Bev, for many years to to come in the most fundamental of ways -

But I have no doubt that they are up to the challenge...History will remember this black couple as one of the most phenomenal of president's and first lady's this country ever had - just you watch!

We had 8 years of inept and incredibly flawed republican "leadership" and we heard nary a peep from so called black republicans who were paid handsomely to be used for various unsavory purposes including exploiting, manipulating and short-changing black communities on the rare occasion there was a need - like disenfranchising them during elections...

And then the black guy and his black wife get in...within 2 months of his swearing in and the faux outrage, contrived gloom and doom projection propagated by republicans fill the airwaves - calls for "revolution" follow laughably preposterous charges of "socialism" and "burdensome debt left to our children and grandchildren"...

So when you repeat these well-worn soundbites from the Limbaugh crowd Bev...I'm not at all "riled" as you suggest, but rather amused, bemused and sad for you -

Because like it or not Bev, as far as these Limbaugh/Hannity/Palin types are concerned, you are Michelle Obama...and no amount of pleading "conservative values" and "I don't see color...I'm one of them because we believe together" is going to change that fact -

I long ago stopped giving a damn what the pope and the scandal-ridden priests in my church think or preach...I go to daily mass and I receive communion everyday...I even wore my Barack Obama t-shirts to mass several times over the course of the campaign...nada!

They need my money Bev...they can't afford to lose that...

I was an avid supporter and benefactor of the pro-life movement which started in the catholic church - and actively participated in the Terry Schiavo case - But that for me was more about returning caretaker rights to her parents and prohibiting a selfish "husband " who'd obviously moved on, from making any decisions on Terry's behalf-

But the whole thing's a sham...contrived for election time manipulation -
and "Fr." Frank Pavone is simply put, a fraud...

I'll repeat this: Pro-choice; the concept of hoping that a woman will make what is an independent, moral and right decision regarding a personal matter while conscious of the fact that the government cannot interfere with or regulate said woman and her body/decisions does not a pro-abortion president Obama make - Even his appeal that we find ways of minimizing incidences of unwanted pregnancies the root cause, has been totally drowned out with the faux outrage-

All the best Bev...and here's hoping that this switch and allegiance to the republican party works out much better for you than did the democratic experience; and may it serve and support you better than it has in modern times, other blacks including Colin Powell...

But never forget: attacks on Michelle and Barack Obama, under any guise, are attacks on you Bev whether you acknowledge it or not...

There's nothing wrong with being a black republican or conservative. Blacks are NOT a monolith so we don't have to support the same policies or candidates. With that said, I don't see the republican party as any more racist than the democrats. Anyone who still believes that the dems are "black friendly" after this election campaign has got to be sleeping. Let's not forget that Obama won in some red states. However, NONE of this changes the fact that what Prelutsky said was disrespectful and uncalled for. Do I believe it's racist? No. It's partisan and nothing more. Remember, many a republican bashed Hilary Clinton and a major political GOP figure referred to Chelsea Clinton as ugly (when she was in her early teens).

@Bev , Cindy et al. This blog is about MIchelle Obama. Not the Republican Party- not the Democratic party or any other party for that matter.

In case you haven't noticed, someone running a blog has to be pretty gosh darned opinionated and as such, I acknowledge that others are free to express their opinions as well and make an attempt to respect the opinions of other free thinking people- as long as they are respectful about expressing that opinion.

Therefore, this little conversation about political parties is
over.
Take it somewhere else. You have the right to vote for whoever in the heck you want to vote for which is why during the election, I enforced a very strict "no electioneering" rule. I trust other voters to make the decision that is in their best interest.

This blog was started to address the systematic negative depiction of Black women in popular culture. - BY EVERYBODY. That issue affects all Black women irrespective of which party they belong to. Seeing as how most of the damage being inflicted on the First Lady at the time this blog was launched was coming from within the Democratic party, one could hardly argue that Michelle Obama bashing is the excluve province of Republicans. Seeing as how the Huffington Post, NY Times, New York Magazine, and the New Yorker, repeated dabble in racist sexist stereotypes about Black women and girls, you could hardly argue that this foolishness is even the exclusive province of right wing conservatives.

At the end off the day when they come to cart us off back into the 18th century, they aren't going to inquire about party affiliation. Part of Black people being free is the freedom to choose to vote for whomever in the heck they want to.

Otherwise all the bruises and bloodshed acquiring the right to vote is meaningless. If you don't have the righ to vote for whomever you want to without being vilified, threatened, bullied, or called a race traitor, then the right to vote is meaningless.

I want Black women at the seat of every table where a decision is being made that affects us so yes, we need Black women who are influential in all political parties, not just the Green Party. We need Black women in the Senate. We need Black women in a governor's mansion. We need a Black woman to be on the primary ballots in every election seeing as how we are one of the most influential voting blocks and all we have to show for it other than some CBC members with little to no influence on their own party despite having a sizeable voting block.

Black women who are Republicans have supported this blog from the beginning and have indicated their solidarity with our efforts, not because they agree with the policies of the President, but because they realized that they face many of the same challenges that the First Lady faces. Negative stereotypes don't have a party affiliation.

@Bev , Cindy et al. This blog is about MIchelle Obama. Not the Republican Party- not the Democratic party or any other party for that matter.

In case you haven’t noticed, someone running a blog has to be pretty gosh darned opinionated and as such, I acknowledge that others are free to express their opinions as well and make an attempt to respect the opinions of other free thinking people- as long as they are respectful about expressing that opinion.

Therefore, this little conversation about political parties is

over.

Take it somewhere else. You have the right to vote for whoever in the heck you want to vote for which is why during the election, I enforced a very strict “no electioneering” rule. I trust other voters to make the decision that is in their best interest.

This blog was started to address the systematic negative depiction of Black women in popular culture. – BY EVERYBODY.

Cindy,

Can't go Independent. I live in a state that has closed primary voting.

I see myself as an Independent conservative, but there is no cross party primary voting in Pennsylvania. Independents can only vote for Independent candidates, Dems for Dems and Repubs for Repubs.

Last April in the PA primary, there were no Independents running for anything, so Independents could not vote. Many Obama supporters who were registered Independents and normally do not bother with primary voting had to scramble to become registered Democrats in order to vote for Obama against Hillary Clinton.

I was a registered Democrat going back to 1972. I went conservative in 2006, but did not change my registration to Republican until last April. Cindy, there was a time when I sounded pretty much like you (without the use of profanity). What you have said in your comments, I have believed at one time or another during my 30 plus years as a Democrat.

Yes I listen to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and black Christian conservatives James T. Harris from Milwaukee and Mason Weaver in San Diego. I also listen to the one and only liberal/left black talk radio station in my former hometown of Philly, especially the early morning host, Bill Anderson. I get people riled up like you in the station's chat room. By the way you can't cast Rush aside. His radio ratings have gone through the roof into the stratosphere.

Some of those folks you are talking about who came to Palin's rallies were angry Democrats who wanted Hillary Clinton as the Democratic nominee. Remember during the primary season many of those folks were honest on camera letting the world know they were Democrats that did not want a black man to become president.

There are old time Democrats that do not like you and do not give one iota about you too Cindy. And I do not think I would have been killed if I had showed up at a Palin rally.

By the way how does Republican conservative principles of individual responsibility, less government, respect for the constitution and life not care for me? Republican conservatism cares about me as an individual citizen of this country and not on the basis of my color. As for former Vice Pres. Cheney, he has plenty of counterparts among Democrats.

I was a little disappointed with Michael Steele, but have gotten over it. It is obvious you do not like his politics, but did you have to get into personal attacks!

I said Pres. Obama's family is beautiful and that he had some family values. I did NOT say he had beautiful family values. The man does NOT see anything wrong with abortion/baby killing/infanticide which is a humongous non family value. Racial attacks (some coming from angry old time white Democrats) can be directed at me but I do not have to receive them. I view myself as being created in the image of God not in the image of black or white or whatever.

Cindy, I guess as a Catholic, you are prepared to be turned away from the receiving of the sacraments for supporting someone who supports infanticide (as some in the Catholic hierarchy think should be done). Are you coming to the aid of the much Notre Dame official that invited Pres. Obama? You probably would have received a scolding like the one the Pope gave Nancy Pelosi on abortion if you had a personal meeting with him.

Sadly divorce and children born to unmarried mothers can be found in members of the 2 major political parties. When it comes to unmarried parents, well that's is primarily personal responsibility. With school drop outs you can blame the schools a little, but that is primarily the parent's responsibility.

You think conservative Republicans don't know their neighbors and don't care about the poor? I personally have found that not to be true. I worked for the Salvation Army in 2 poor Philly neighborhoods. The corps officers and employees were mostly Republican. They provided wonderful ministries and services in those neighborhoods, such as free daily lunch meals, heat bill assistance, weekly youth activities, and Christmas toys. Parents would drag out trash bags full of high quality toys when they were going through rough times.

I have been apart of church community wide outreaches in Philly and were I live now in Lansdale to aid those less fortunate. I worked along the side of Republicans and Democrats in these efforts.

And how do Democrats do it any better? How does my life mean more to Democrats than Republicans. The most important things that happen to blacks in my life time, desegregation and full voting rights for all black citizens came with the help of some Republicans whose votes off set the opposing southern Democrats.

I now have a different political view. Life brings about changes.
