I don´t think Michelle is smarter than her husband, but I agree she has an excellent PR team.

she’s a graduate of Princeton and Harvard law school
she was his boss at the law firm where they meet
so there is no doubt in my mind that she is just as intelligent as her husband so please stop acting like she doesn’t have a brain

The Republicans have nothing else to talk about. Michelle was never angry. Now that they more or less know that Michelle is not an angry person (Approval rate 79%), Repubs don’t know what to do with themselves. Michelle rocks. Michelle is intelligent. So is President Obama. They both were raised to appreciate intelligence. They love themselves, first, and they love each other. That’s why they got married. That is Why Barack Obama is POTUS and Michelle is FLOTUS. They are equally responsible for making it this far. If Michelle was an angry Black woman, Obama would never be President today. Case closed.

Michelle Obama is Michelle Obama and if she has made some changes is wise for the public that is not used to assertive women who speak their minds and she is saying what she wants to say anyway and that is what matters! Enough passifying fearful people who do not want to hear assertive women and want empty shells on the shelf!

When I look at Michelle Obama I see arrogance and hypocrisy. All of her life she has benefited from White guilt and White charity. Anyone really think Michelle Obama earned her scholarship to Princeton? No. Read Michelle’s pitiful excuse for critical writing – her thesis about being a black kid at a rich college – and you’ll see how immature and unprofessional Michelle Obama is.

Bottom line: Michelle Obama is a parasite.

You will find not a few admirers of Michelle, here, it’s true, and you’ll find no-one who’s apologetic about that fact, I’m certain. By the way, I don’t understand why you don’t like “crap” when you’ve pitched up carting a ton of your own, but, there we have it…

When I look at your post I see bitterness, and emptiness. From where I sit, White guilt and White charity, as you name it, has absolutely nothing to do with Michelle. She has used a great work ethic, cracking interpersonal skills, intelligence, discipline, patience and much more besides to get to where she is, today.

How many of those qualities do you possess, I wonder?

You’ve shown a good deal of immaturity, your own self; yet another burned bottomed chastising the hardly used kettle….

Sometimes our eyes see the side of a person that we want to see. Sometimes our hearts just don’t chase after the good in what we see.
Sometimes we just don’t want to see at all.

Mrs Obama, First Lady, THE Lady! Your presence does not mean the same to everyone. I am greatful for your beginning. I have confidence for the end results. That’s enough for me to think of life more positively, and that is what my future encouragement to others will be.

I, too, find it interesting to hear and read about how Michelle has changed. The fact of the matter is that she has not. She’s the same person she was before, during, and after the campaign. The fact she is not one to be pigeon-holed, seems to bring great discontent to those who only seek to disbarage her.

and Mrs Bush was well liked and respected also

I don’t think I’m confused. I said that the last several first ladies have been villified. Some of them were Republicans. Was it Democrats that bashed them? You admit to liking two of them, That’s fine. I’m not saying you had to like any of them. But all of them had one thing in common: they were married to the President. Michelle is in the same position. I liked some and didn’t like others. There is nothing in my posts to say that I feel Michelle is unworthy. I think that is bias on your part and perhaps you aren’t willing to have a dialogue. I feel strongly that anyone in her position needs to have defenders if for no other reason to point out the bigots and idiots among us. I think it’s wrong that any first lady has been subject to ridicule. My point is, I’ll wait and see before I put Michelle on a pedestal. She is a strong woman, she is the President’s wife, she is a mother. For that she has my respect. The adulation will take a little longer.

You know, Judy, I found it really telling when you came on here, seeming to have decided that “black men and women” were holding the First Lady up as a “paragon” and made the – very strange, to me – comment that those of us on MOW all “seem to have the same agenda, which is to defend her right or wrong.”

It clearly isn’t “only” Black men and women who find Michelle, a person, worthy of admiration, as I’m sure you well know, and if you or anyone else can kindly point out the “wrong” she’s done to deserve the brickbats hurled at her by the likes of – the now strangely silent, Lyn – I’d be most grateful. Also, why on earth I’m thinking would I want to defend anyone if they’d clearly done something that needed to be picked up on.

I’m not into paragons, myself, all of us being human, and therefore, less than perfect. Adulation doesn’t do it for me, either, as this must be one of the surest ways to be quickly disappointed.

Furthermore, I have absolutely no idea where you see “bias” anywhere in Dana’s perfectly reasonable comments. As to her perhaps, not being “willing to have a dialogue”….uhhh..isn’t that exactly what she was engaging in?!

Perhaps, she just decided she’d expended enough of her precious energy on you, and had other things to do….

Sooo. With that in mind, these will be my final offerings on this thread, and then from my point of view, I’ll put this one to bed. Not least because, although I’m not thick (and before you say it, yes, I know you never said I was…) I’m having difficulty understanding and keeping up with your train of thought.

It is great that you say you’re trying to garner more understanding and information; I like to do the same, and since there’s loads that I don’t know about loads of topics it’s good to be curious and inquisitive, and see what others can teach me and what I can learn. With that in mind, there is no way that I am going tell anyone that it is wrong to try to gain greater understanding. From where I sit, there is nothing in my comments whatsoever – or Dana’s – to suggest otherwise.

Also, neither of us has “eluded (sic) to things that you have not said.” I’ve quoted directly from your earlier comments, so if you believe assumptions are being made, and we’ve shown bias in any way, I’ll just have to respect your opinion, scratch my head in complete and utter bafflement, and beg to differ.

Not that you need defending but I don’t think it is fair for anyone to put you in the same breath as Lyn.

Perhaps this will help you. I don’t know you, don’t know anything about you. But I assume that you are the kind of woman who is willing to be wrong, to ask tough questions, to stick your neck out, to have a dialogue, to listen, to share and to do some otherwise hard things. From this little exchange alone, I am proud of you Judy. I don’t need to know anything else, because I know how hard it is to do the aforementioned things. You could easily sit around with like minded individuals and only talk about the things and people and First Ladies that you like and not pursue what it means to grow as a person and as an American. I will defend you from people who seek to malign you. You are not a racist.

Maybe that will give you some insight into how some of us on this site feel about First Lady Michelle Obama. Many of know how hard it is to be the first, and to be the First Black First Lady is, in and of itself, enough for us to be proud of now, in this moment. We are proud of her for something that you feel is not enough. For us, it is more than enough.

There is no reason to “worship” Michelle Obama – or any other first lady. I’m sure that the black community is proud to have a black first lady – and, it is understandable to be proud. I am old enough to remember the adulteration that Jackie O received (especially from the irish catholics) when Kennedy was elected. At the time, it was a huge thing to have an irish catholic elected. People hero worshipped jack kennedy and his wife and his two adorable children. They were the picture (literally the pictures in Life magazine!) of the perfect family life! Now, of course, we have learned that 1. Jack was a serial adulterer – having nude women in the White House swimming pool; he was also very ill with Addison’s disease 2. He had a long affair with an intern in the White House (the book is coming out shortly) 3. There was something unseemly going on with Marilyn Monroe and one of JFK’s mistresses he shared w/ a mafia don; 4. Jackie was miserable and spent a ton of $ of clothes; 5. she was on Onassis’ yacht escaping from JFK while in the White House….. it goes on and on. All I’m saying is that this hero worship is probably unjustified; black women be proud of yourselves but don’t get crazy about this hero worship stuff ……. nothing is what it seems on the surface in any couples relationship. I think Michelle Obama is having to deal with an awful lot of adjustment; and, I think it is not easy for her – I think being married to a man of ambition means you are second to his ambitions (no matter what!) and that there are huge adjustments to being in the public eye. Also, I do perceive her as angry sometimes – but I think she will learn to let her anger go as time goes on….. to be in the public eye and to be first lady is a major major adjustment for her – and, I think she is trying her best….

I see that Lyn, the white supremacist, has conveniently erased his blog (google “blog from wembley park” and you’ll see what I mean) in the wake of the shooting at the Holocaust Museum. I wonder what hole this racist slug has crawled into, sure to emerge in a new incarnation in order to spew his vile hatred?
