First Lady Michelle Obama is featured in a video to launch United We Serve.
From the White House:
Today to kick off United We Serve, First Lady Michelle Obama, Cabinet Secretaries, and Senior Administration officials have fanned out across the country to participate in service projects.
The First Lady is rolling up her sleeves alongside the First Lady of California Maria Shriver and Corporation of National and Community Service acting CEO Nicky Goren to help build a public playground at Bret Harte Public Elementary School in San Francisco. Defense Secretary Gates is spending time with our veterans at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Commerce Secretary Locke is reading to children at La Mesita Homeless Shelter in Mesa, Arizona. Just to name a few.
It’s going to take all of us working together to build a new foundation for America and it will happen one community at a time. Watch this special message from the First Lady to learn how you can do your part:
I have a very strong libertarian streak so the whole “sign up with the government” thing always gives me pause(except when they are handing out coupons for $40 bucks off a digital TV converter
), but for those who aren’t check it out for yourself.

They volunteered mostly through private organizations, similar to the Fatherhood Initiative on Friday. Some of the groups are listed in these posts, if people want to volunteer directly. Saturday is supposed to be a day of National Health Care service organized by OFA too.

When my husband is writing fictional books and making over 2 million a year and when I no longer have to work and cook and clean and take care of the children and after I return from my trip to Paris (no doubt using some of the taxpayer $$) and after I get back from my trip to NY for dinner and a show (again, transportation on the taxpayer dime) then I’ll volunteer.
michelle obama is a poor excuse as a role model. She has all the comforts of the grand dame and transportation besides, so it’s easy for her to talk a big story.
In the meantime, I have to work to pay the taxes and make the donations to buy the soup to feed the poor (some of whom refuse to work) in the kitchens that she “volunteers” in.
I believe this is just a photo-op for a very insecure person who needs to be in the limelight.
