Do I really need to offer any commentary to this? We get these comments EVERY. DAY at this blog, but they get promptly sent to the spam filter. You’d think after hundreds of years, the bigots would come up with something else. Read it and weep:
Gorilla escaped from Riverbank Zoo is Michelle Obama’s ancestor. According to FITSNews, former State Senate candidate Rusty DePass made a comment on Friday on the Internet site, Facebook, describing the escaped gorilla at Riverbanks Zoo as an “ancestor” to First Lady Michelle Obama.
The comment was made after Trey Walker, an advisor to SC Attorney General Henry McMaster, posted a Facebook update about the escaped animal at the zoo. DePass posted a comment stating, “I’m sure it’s just one of Michelle’s ancestors – probably harmless.” Political Pete

I’d tell you to watch the CNN report as well, but CNN’s video always messes up for some strange reason.

OMG, this guy is a public figure… He’s an advisor to someone we elected into office to look after ours and our children’s well-being; to stand up for us and speak on our behalf to “big government” and he’s making comments like that to disrespect our First Lady…
He should be FIRED! Any time an elected official or any of his party members makes a racist comment in public he no longer is able to serve the community. He just showed that he cannot/will not support and serve African-Americans/Blacks the way he would others because he is a racist! He should be forced to step down from his position.

Gem, I lurk on both of your sites and every once in awhile I am compelled to comment on a story. With that said, I’ve always loved when racists are ignorant aloud and in public. . .these outbursts show White Americans what is really going on in the minds of (usually) closeted racist. It has always chaffed my hide when some White (and Black) Americans pretend that racism is a thing of the past and that any “educated” or “respectable” person would know better. Please. Are we really surprised?
Michelle Obama was a target of attack from day one and if the First Lady of the United States is subject to these attacks, certainly “ordinary” Black American women are targets. I say let these racist keep exposing themselves. Let them show the world that racism is still alive and kicking in the United States.

The name of your blog is deceiving, I thought this was a blog to counter everything she does authored by some Far Right nutjob. Upon visiting I was happy to see that you are merely highlighting her in the positive light.
Usually watch blogs are the direct opposite in nature.

Ignorant. That is the only word that you can use to describe him. Ignorant. He is not sorry for what he said so he should not have apologized. Why do people like him and Don Imus say these ignorant things and then once it’s out of their mouths they are sorry? Sorry my foot, they are not sorry they meant every word they said. He meant every single word he said. What a joke. He doesn’t deserve to represent anyone.

Just put a picture of him side by side with Michelle Obama. Look at his ugly, pitiful face, the thin lips, the paste skin. I’d rather be HER any day. Just think about all the beliefs he held being shattered one by one. Blacks can play basketball, be QB in football teams, fly the space shuttle, do brain surgery, command soldiers into battle, heal, educate, teach and be commander-in-chief.
He looks at his robe and hood in the closet and cry for the good old days, when name calling alone would keep these ******* in place.
His apology is not sincere or enough. I wish I could give him a good slap in the face for the insolence.

He really needs to take himself out of any public office he holds. He will only hurt his family and his self if stays in office. I can only hope and pray that he will realize that he is wrong in his thoughts and words. I am a black woman who has grandchildren that are half black and half white. I don’t like the idea that they might hear, see, or think that there are people in the United States that are like this man! One day he will be voted out of the office he holds and their community will be alot better with him gone!!

It’s absolutely disgusting, and no decent person would applaud it.
At the same time, we should remember that http://www.bushorchimp.com is still operating, and where is the outrage over that?
The Left gets away with this with little response, and the (fringe, crazy, a-hole) Right gets deservedly slammed every time.

Oh please. While I agree that Bush or Chimp is offensive, let’s not pretend as if this is the same thing.
Racist White governments have been suggesting that people of African descent are descendant from primates for centuries. It is how they justified slavery, murder, rape, and a host of other evils. Moreover, these same governments (or shall I say the good ol’ US of A) used the same tactic to justify the use of the atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
Comparing Bush or Chip to the remarks made by DePass is like comparing apples and oranges.

Oh. Dear.
Whatever little amount of home-training Mr. DePass received, clearly didn’t “take”……
Yes, Desiree, ignorant just about covers it; I used to think ignorance was something to hide, but some are out here proudly flaunting theirs for all the world to see.
All Eyes Are On Him. And for all the wrong reasons, too.
What a shame and a disgrace…..

If President Obama had made some degrading comment about Rusty DePass’s wife or daughters, can you just imagine the uproar from the Republicans, Eric Cantor, John Boehner, Newt, Limbaugh, Romney, Palin, and all the other losers? I think people should leave politicans children alone, no jokes or anything. Now all of a sudden these NO answers big mouth Republicans seem to have nothing to say about one of their own. The Governor of South Carolina, Senator Graham. It’s ashame that these racists idiots like DePass still exsists.

Thank-You Political Pete, I like it too. The First Lady, Michelle Obama deserve this shrine. She is special, despite what idiots like Rusty DePass think. I’m tired of certain people always finding fault with the First Lady, she is a human being like us all, with pluses, and minuses. She can get along with the Queen of England, and turn around and make the average Jane on the street feel just as important. So to heck with idiots like DePass. I am proud of my First Lady.

You know, I was very hopeful when President Obama was elected with 52.9 % of the vote that we had seen the end of this kind of thing. I guess I was just naive. There is another one out today from Tennessee with a Republican staffor depicting President Obama as a “spook.” They did not even apologize. Said they emailed it to the wrong person.

Oh, No Joe!!!!
It wasn’t all right to call former President Bush a chimp.
And at the same time, this is Michelle Obama Watch, and it isn’t “OK as well” for the First Lady to be mentioned in the same breath as a gorilla. Well, you know it. Please don’t try to deflect attention away from what Mr. DePass has said by dragging a former President into this.
As I said, this is Michelle Obama Watch, and so he isn’t the focus of attention and concern here.
(That someone should even have to state this speaks volumes….!)

Hello –
Recent remarks by a “Rusty DePass” were shameful and degrading to the state of South Carolina. The Mayor of Columbia, SC’s letter was somewhat healing and respectful. Michelle Obama is the First Lady of Our Land and deserves all our respect and support – she’s doing a superior job representing the people, and especially, the women of America. I applaud her efforts at keeping her family as private as possible, as protected from the barbs of ‘public life’. I am sorry that anyone in our country is as ignorant and insensitive as they sometimes are. God Bless Michelle Obama and all her family.

People are recalling when Bush was compared to a chimp — this was wrong — he was the President. I do not remember anyone calling Laura Bush names — Michelle Obama is the 1st Lady NOT the President. These small minded people who disagree with the President should attack the President NOT his family. Everyone knows the comment was racist – but let us keep the 1st Family out of these comments.

Sometimes the awful things in our hearts comes out of our mouths.
One thing is for sure if she evolved from a monkey so did he.
Now if he is a Christian man he knows no one evolved we were created by God. Were you Rusty?

I continue to be very proud of First Lady Michelle Obama who has both endured and deflected the abuse of hateful, small-minded, frightened idiots.
Needless to say, ordinary every day Black women have to deal with the same type of hatred from the ignorant and the hate-filled every day on the job, in college and graduate school, and the community in general. But certainly not on this escalated near-hysterical level.
While I truly regret that Mrs. Obama takes these hits, her presence and the reaction to her presence has revealed to the entire world the hidden sick heart of darkness in America.

I love and adore Rust DePass! I love and adore all pasty male racist morons who make themselves the face of the Republican Party, dooming it to the oblivion it so richly deserves.
As for Derek and Joe, sorry, I realize that being mindbogglingly stupid and intellectually dishonest is a membership requirement for the right wing, but calling Bush a chimp indicates that he personally is a stupid person, whereas DePass’s comment is a standard-issue attack on blacks as a race — the comparison is grossly dishonest, and your apparent belief that it can be used to excuse Randy DePass’s blatant racism is idiotic.

Michelle Obama, First Lady or not, is an undeniably beautiful human specimen. Anybody can see that. Just as everyone knows a gorilla when they see one. And if any of us don’t know a hillbilly when we see one, then we definitely know one when we HEAR one. Banish DePass back to the bushes. Vote!

Joe……………… Your sheet and hood is ready. I believe G.W. was a sorry President, but I never called him or his family CHIMPS. You see the different between me and you is I don’t hate someone because of the color of their skin. The best thing about G.W. was Laura Bush. But the disrespect of the Obamas with this racists bull is not a surprise to me. I’m not foolish enough to think that because Barack Obama was elected President, there wouldn’t be people like Rusty DePass still out there. But here’s what is so special, everyday that this woman ( Michelle Obama ) goes out there and carry herself with class and dignity, she shows who really are the stupid idiots.

One more comment to Joe about his false dichotomy regarding it being okay to refer to a gorilla as the ancestor of the First Lady because some people called George Bush a chimp (and not just okay…he claims it “must” be okay).
The reference to the former president, while not very kind, does not rip him, belittle him and attempt to humiliate him for being white. AND I don’t ever recall this type of insult coming from anyone acting in an official or semi-official capacity with the Democratic Party.
Using words like “gorilla” or “monkey” when referring to anyone of African descent is racist pure and simple. There is no other way to read it. So if you think it “must be okay” you probably think all the other slimy, racist remarks, pictures and jokes emanating on a regular basis from Republican Party offices (many of them supported by our tax dollars) are within bounds because poor George Bush was called names by people who happened to recognize that he was the worst, most inept, devisive, arrogant, mendacious person to ever darken the Oval Office.
Sad, really.

My goodness…
Some things will never change. Some people will never change.
It must TRULY be eating him up to have the Obamas as the President and First Lady. I’m sure there is much gnashing of teeth going on in his house. We need to pray for his family, because he is SOOO unhappy that he’s probably rude to his wife, yelling at his kids, and kicking his dog. We should try to not even get mad at his ugliness- leave him mad by himself and we win TWICE: first by having the Obama’s, second by having JOY.

At least he did the correct thing and resigned, too many times people in public life think an apology is enough.
