Yes, I read the Drudge Report. So anytime Drudge features a photo of First Lady Michelle Obama, its accompanying an article or critique that is non too kind. So my heart just dropped when I saw Malia Obama featured on the top half of the Drudge report last night because I KNEW it couldn’t be for anything positive or good. The headline Drudge assigned was “Miss Obama’s peacenik T-shirt sends message to G8 leaders…” and it links to a story in the Daily Mail out of the UK. Here is a screen capture of the Drudge headline, notice its right below an entry about First Lady Michelle Obama’s purse in Russia.
The Daily Mail apparently thinks an 11-year-old is trying to send a message about nuclear nonproliferation when she sported a t-shirt with a peace symbol on it.
“Her father had just won agreement from the Russians to cut back on the world’s stockpiles of nuclear weapons.
And Barack Obama’s eldest daughter was obviously keen to make her own statement on the issue – even if it was merely a fashion statement.
Just 48 hours after the U.S. President signed agreements with Russian president Dmitry Medvedev to reduce weapon stores, 11-year-old Malia Obama was spotted wearing not one, but two T-shirts with an anti-nuclear message.. .
The symbol, designed for the CND in 1958, is now widely used to signify peace and is also an international sign for anti-war protesters.”
Actually you nitwits, its also the sign that aliens have landed in a nearby corn field
It almost looks like one of those shirts that changes color in the sunlight. They are called Thermochromatic t-shirts.
Should I even bother to try to argue that an 11-year old is not likely selecting her fashion statements based on complex policy decisions. We won’t even open up the can of worms of a pattern of imputing adult reasoning and decision making on young African American girls. She’s a little girl wearing a shirt.

I think we all should ignore Drudge, just as we do Fox News. They’re both up to the same thing. I figure that by avoiding them, I help to drive down their audience share.

Well, I suppose they felt a need to write, something. Anything. *sigh*.
I hope Malia and Sasha are enjoying themselves, and having read that they made ice cream in Rome, ate some, and then went away with some of what they’d made, that’s an experience in and of itself. Lovely.
(Also, I know it’s silly of me to expect it, but I see The Begrudging Drudge saw no need to mention how well the First Lady carried herself in Russia, or the vivid and positive impression she made on those that she met in Moscow – even though some had expressed “concern” before she travelled – or how such trips help to bridge cultural chasms, foment understanding and good will, and which may over time even help to enhance trade links and job opportunities in the U.S.
Good of the Begrudging Drudge – and, also to be honest just about everything I’ve seen so far – to not see any of this, and simply focus in the most negative way on a bag. *sigh”.)
I hope Malia and Sasha continue to enjoy Rome…..

The Drudge Report just likes to make anything out of nothing if it’s about the Obamas.
I’m happy to say that Malia and I have the same fashion sense at a great price. I have the same shirt (the gray tee w/peace sign on the side) and I got it at Target.
Anyways as a young girl it’s a good sign to send that peace is the only way to go in this world. So good job Malia.
Also to Gina, PLEASE STOP READING THE DRUDGE REPORT! Girl, your sanity will thank you. lol

Well said Dee and Cee Cee there is nothing more to add!
Except yes– for your own sake- you must distance yourself from some of the poison out there and we know there is plenty to be found.
I think to myself that every morning the First Family wakes up and begins their day they are making history in some way and taking us with them.
There will always be a gross number who hates this fact and chokes on the very thought. Let them have thier misery. It certainly does not need our company.

Just pray for the family safety! Fox and all those anti-Obama haters, are extremely dangerous. First time in my life, I’m witnessing hate up close and center. Not a good feeling at all!!

Sure is a shame the one way street the above bloggers travel. Condemn Drudge for a innocent artical and praise the Democratic party for their making fun of Sarah Palins baby because of his problem or for praising a late night talk show host for speaking sexually about he 14 year old daughter. It shows the path of the socialist democrats and their Csar!
Also displays the hate of a different point of view for Patroit networks. May god help them even if they don,t believe in him..With all the babies they killed they did not manage to wipe out dissent against their socialist programs.

Tis sad that so-called mature adults who have not been able to get a rise out of our POTUS or our FLOTUS with their shallow, ugly and mean-spirited name-calling and comments think that now they must resort to attacking their children in order to accomplish their goal!
Pathetically SAD!

have you seen the attacks on Malia over at freeper?
vile, hateful stuff.
it’s enough to make you start up a good pot of grits, and start practicing with your cast iron skillet.

Actually, I was disgusted and appalled by the way people treated Sarah Palin’s baby. I said so when it happened. WAY BACK WHEN. So my moral authority is in tact. If a SPECIFIC blogger engaged in the behavior you speak of, address them specifically. THIS BLOG has been consistent that children should be left alone.

Drudge and The freepers are the most hateful and racist people. It’s so funny to me how they cry so much about David Letterman when he was talking about her adult daughter who got knocked up and not the 14 year old but will say worse things about an 11 year old. It’s amazing what some so called “Christians” will do.

rikyrah, you’re not the only one who’s seeing it (not talking about myself. I never go to those places). But the Vancouver Sun did a story about it.

I also remember last Halloween when Sasha dressed up as a skeleton (I think) and Palin’s youngest daughter Willow dressed up as a princess, and Faux News (I think Fox and Friends) was comparing who looked the best. Of course they picked Willow and kind of criticized the Obamas for letting Sasha wear a skeleton costume which they thought was unfeminine for a girl her age to wear.

GINA, please continue to read the DRUDGE! and are you familiar with the FREE REPUBLIC! well they are beating up on the FIRST LADY like it is no tomorrow! and their was a VILE quote made about MALIA from the FREE REPUBLIC! word’s such as TRASH, GHETTO and I will not write the other word, and I watch FOX NEW’S! not to support, but, to listen to the CODE WORD’S they send out! I want to know and hear about everything when it come’s to the OBAMA’S, we can close our eye’s but, the FACT remain that their are RACIST in AMERICA, and if they hate the PRESIDENT! then they hate his entire FAMILY! and I don’t want to even think about the WEE MICHELLE’S being HATED!!! now ask me if I PRAY each day for their SAFETY? you better believe it!!!
People the reality is, the RACIST are trying their best to transport this country back into the SIXTY’S! and they are working OVER TIME!
BILL YEATER of course you would use the word INNOCENT! but, the truth is MALIA being attacked has nothing to do with SARAH PALIN’S daughter! the PRESIDENT is not all over AMERICA attacking SARAH PALIN but, SARAH PALIN is running all over AMERICA attacking the PRESIDENT, and she doe’s it every chance she get’s! MALIA is being attacked because she is the PRESIDENT’S daughter! I guess they say well, if we can’t get him, well, we will come after his CHILD! but it won’t work!!!!

I would like to know who posted that kind of ugly comments. It is a criminal and sick mind to think of such ugly thing on an innocent 11 years old, They need to be punished.

I love Drudge!
And Malia should not have worn the shirts. Totally inappropriate for the occasion. Now she is politicking and can become fair game like any other politician’s child who gets into the game.
The shirts were a poor choice. It was an obvious calculated statement. One would have been bad, but two shirts with the same logo make an obvious statement.

I agree with you Janice. That hatred of the Obama family is unbelievable. Most Americans cannot stand to see a Black First Family. That’s very clear and words and actions by mainstream media and people show.

Gracie,
You are obviously one of those “Christian conservatives” trolls spreading your moral values around. The idea that this was a calculated political move is laughable. Go to any kids section in a store and you will see shirts with a peace sign on it. I even had one when I was a kid.

Gracie,
Oh please, if you knew anything you would know that Target for the past month(actually since summer has started) has a campaign going on based on the Woodstock and the hippie era going on at their stores. Are you going to accuse Target of also sending a message to the Russians?
We don’t really know if Malia is sending a message by wearing these shirts. It’s all based on some people’s assumptions (The Drudge Report) of why Malia wore them.
So saying they are fair game is wrong because one they are underage and two they are not putting themselves out their…..it’s others based on their own assumptions is what putting Malia out there.

Reading the websites from Drudge and the Free Republicans I find It amazing that so many of the haters and racists can’t spell or use basic grammar. I guess racism and ignorance have always gone hand and hand.

I am more concerned with the young buck in the baggy pants seen with his arm around her coming out of a building. Who is the American taxpayers paying to vacation with her? Other in public office have had to repay for their children taking vacations and traveling with their parents on taxpayer funds. As for the tee shirt, I think all of the First Family’s clothing should be chosen so it will not to create controversy.
