Say it ain’t so! Mrs O’s garden contaminated – Oh no! After months of hard work it’s being reported that the First Garden is contaminated with sewer sludge! According to the Daily Finance a previous Presidential gardening team used sewage sludge for fertilizer. The culprits? Apparently the Clinton White House used a sludge based fertilizer on the lawn in the 1990’s. What’s contained in this sewer sludge? Anything that we can pour down our drains
To read the entire story go to DailyFinance.com.
Mrs O’s garden, the first since Eleanor Roosevelt, also may not be certified as organic. Use of sludge fertilizer is prohibited in organic gardens. But don’t despair. As an urban gardener I’m familiar with the ongoing war between those nasty environmental toxins and healthy veggies. A raised bed organic garden is easy to construct and it will keep the organic soil from mingling with that nasty toxic sewer sludge.

NOOOOOO! Not my precious garden… I mean Not her precious garden
I think I am more invested in that garden than she is
Did I tell y’all that I am now eating the products of my container garden AND I have an out of control Ivy taking over a book shelf. I hope this is a hoax.

NO, it’s not toxic! Jeez…… Daily Finance is lazily repeating lazy reporting from Huff Po, which lazily repeated lazy reporting by Mother Jones, which has already been debunked. Nobody bothers to check facts!

Thank you, Regina for your comments and the links. It is good to read and research – and, yes, check those facts! – for your own self, as I like to do, too!

Good to read that this issue is a non-issue. Now pass the salad.

Michelle is facing the results of the wastewater industry push to call sewage sludge ‘biosolids’ and pretend that it is a good fertilizer.
They spread the White House lawn 5 times over the past 20 years as a sludge-as-fertilizer publicity stunt.
I sure hope that Michelle investigates and stops the federal policy that promotes sludge use on farms and gardens…since the stuff just leaves toxic metals, pharmacueticals, and pathogens in our soils.
If we want safe food we have got to stop sludge.

I don’t believe any of this. Any way they can try to break the new President and/or the First Lady Michelle, they will. Keep on trying. As long as the Lord is going before them, every thing they touch will be blessed. Let’s see what they will come up with next.
