For those of you who do not know the 3rd Annual Blogging While Brown Conference will take place in Washington, DC June 18-19, 2010. Since we will be in Washington, DC, the home of the First Lady, it seemed only fitting that we should have a Michelle Obama Watch Meet and Greet. This is a chance for all of our Michelle Obama Watchers in the DC area to come out and meet each other. Of course Gina, Patty, and I will be there.
We are asking our Michelle Obama Watchers who reside in the DC area to help us plan this event. We want to hear your comments and suggestions. What are your favorite restaurants and places to meet in our Nation’s Capital? The tentative dates for the meet and greet are Thursday, June 17 or Friday, June 18. We would love to do a happy hour, but we are flexible. So let us know your thoughts. As the time draws near we will post more information.
Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions and we look forward to meeting each and every one of you.

Yes, this does sound great. I have two suggestions:
(1) McCormick and Schmidts on 13th and F a few blocks from the White House. They have a wonderful menu of surf and turf and a back area that could easily suffice for a crowd of up to 20. The crab cakes (an area specialty) are wonderful. Average dinner will run $35 to $45. It’s classic dining DC Style. BTW I ordered a Cosmopolitan that was out of this world. I’ll check and see if I can locate something closer — but it may be pricey and above the $35 to $45 range!
(2) The Brookland Inn. This is a black owned Bed and Breakfast Hotel with a nice little Happy Hour Bar to boot. It’s a cozy spot on 12th and Perry Streets, NE and is conveniently located within walking distance of the Brookland/Catholic University Metro Station. You can stay there and do your Meet and Greet downstairs. The owner is Dmaz and I’d be happy to put you in touch with him.
A reservation for all downtown dining is a must!! Also, keep in mind that June 18 is at the height of DCs tourist season. Again, were talking DC and if you stay downtown or anywhere near downtown at the height of the tourist season it’ll cost you a few Ben Franklins. Feel free to contact me through the website, and I will be happy to check things out for you. I also know a local event planner who may be able to give you a hand. If you’re nice, she may do it for free.
BTW, I love the DMV but sadly most folk don’t live in DC. So make sure you check with a native before you land about the ins, outs, and quirks before arrival.
Peace!

Native here!
I would suggest Eatonville
It’s located on 14th street two stops from the DC Convention Center metro and about 3-4 blocks walk from the metro. The U Street NW restaurant pays tribute to author/anthropologist Nora Zeale Hurston.

I’m almost leaning towards having it on Wednesday night when I arrive and before the madness begins. But either way.
What about Union Station? I don’t know what the food is like in any of the restaurants although I love me some Au bon Pain
