Today First Lady Michelle Obama will unveil a nationwide campaign to help combat the childhood obesity epidemic at the White House. According to the White House Press Office, Mrs Obama will be joined by:
- Tiki Barber, NBC correspondent and former NFL football player,
- Dr. Judith Palfrey, President of the American Academy of Pediatrics
- Will Allen from Milwaukee, WI, who is a leader in the effort to bring fresh produce to inner cities and urban areas
- Mayors Chip Johnson of Hernando, Mississippi, and Joseph Curtatone of Somerville, Massachusetts, who are leading efforts in their communities to reduce childhood obesity
- Local students, including a student from DC’s Bancroft elementary school, and members of the 2009 national championship pee-wee football team—Watkins Hornets.
“The First Lady will announce the elements of the nationwide campaign, which will build on effective strategies at all levels and in all sectors, engage families and communities, and mobilize both public and private sector resources. The campaign will put the nation on track to solve the childhood obesity challenge within a generation so that children born today will reach adulthood at a healthy weight.”
The live stream begins at 12PM EST and will be accompanied by a live discussion on Facebook. Click here to view the live White House video stream.
The First Lady will also make an appearance on Good Morning America, with Robin Roberts, this morning to discuss the initiative as well.

So cool that Mrs. Obama has Wisconsin’s beloved Will Allen involved with this.

I think it’s fantastic we have such a classy woman as First Lady who can stand as a strong role model for our nation’s girls. Go Michelle!

if we do not get our child moving and eating better there will be no future, no one to carry on in our behalf….we can make a difference, what do I need to do to help? what are you going to do to help? Come on people, lets work together to get it done.

Michelle, let’s get kids dancing. It’s so much fun they don’t realize it’s exercise.

I don’t recall voting for Michelle Obama. Once again, unelected First Ladies are (ala the Clinton era) pushing an agenda without virtue of being voted into office. My advice to Mrs. Obama – run for office. In the meantime, serve your own kids whatever you want.

George Lee….Are you insane? No, seriously are you?….I kid…lol
Listen Laura Bush pushed her agenda, so did Barbara Bush and all First Ladies past…Mrs. Obama is doing nothing different…your reaction and the fact that you use Hillary Clinton a former Dem first lady as an example tells me one thing…Your a Republican who hates this woman no matter what she does…

@George Lee…..Didn’t you forget Laura Bush “illiteracy campaign” and Nancy Reagen “say no to drugs”? I guess you just manage to let them slip your mind. This is nothing new, First Ladies have been doing this for such along time. Mrs. Reagen, Mrs.L. Bush,Mrs. B. Bush, Mrs. B. Ford, Mrs. P. Nixon, none of them ran for office did they? My advice to you is to chill out, if you don’t want your kids or grandkids to be involved in “Let’s Move”, then don’t let them. Those that do, will. Give us a break!!!
