Last week, M.O.W contributor Bridgette shared with us Why the Fashion Industry Needs Michelle:
Michelle is a marketer’s dream. She has immense mass appeal and all levels of the fashion industry are chomping at the bit for a little slice of the Michelle Obama pie.
The writers at Mrs-O.org, who I recognize as fellow Michelle Obama watchers, are also "on watch" for Michelle's whirlwind impact on the fashion industry. According to the authors, inspiration for the MrsO blog came after Michelle's appearance at the ... Read More

Michelle is a marketer’s dream. She has immense mass appeal and all levels of the fashion industry are chomping at the bit for a little slice of the Michelle Obama pie. Maria Puente of the Naperville Sun wrote an interesting article titled, “Baby Boomer Pinup Girl | Fashion Industry banks on Michelle".
"Michelle Obama already has a distinct look: bold color is the new black for her -- tomato red, peacock turquoise, shimmery violet, lemony yellow.
She looks as good in a no-name white shirt, ... Read More

So I skipped over their headline photo of a topless Barack Obama and scrolled down the front page at the Huffington Post and saw a cute photo of Natasha "Sasha" Obama and had an ONTD ( Oh No They Didn't) moment when I read the headline "Sasha Obama's Sassy Vacation Sunglasses." Sassy? I wasn't the only one who had a problem with the headline:
If HuffPo had just one black editor, they would immediately stop using the word "sassy" to describe this ... Read More

When Barack Obama announced his candidacy and went on to prove himself as a formidable candidate, the media presented the question: "Is the United States really ready for a Black president?" Now that voters provided a resounding answer and the Inaugural Ball is looming, another question still looms in the wind: Is the world ready for a Black First Lady (and all the other women like her)?
Earlier in the month, Gina treated us to a slideshow of visionary sketches for Michelle Obama's ... Read More

We should SOOO go into merchandising. My Mama said that there is a woman in our hometown racking up selling $6 Obama calendars. Well if you could't snag the mythical MIchelle Obama Rhodium ring, you can still get a tube of Michelle Obama lipstick. Yes, Michelle Obama is reportedly getting her own lipstick. From Flypaper
As if having her own style guide and an Obama boot wasn't enough, the First Lady elect, is now getting her own pucker juice via the brand Khuraira. ... Read More

Posted by SjP of Sojourner's Place. The economy is in the pits and all the while multi-billion dollar companies continue to solicit Congress for multi-billion bailouts; but yet Americans remain very optomistic about the President-elect Barack Obama. According to a recent CBS opinion poll, one in four or 75% of the American people are optimistic with what January 20, 2009 will bring with the swearing in of the 44th President of the United States. In addition, and in the highest percentage to ... Read More

By special request from the No. 1 MOW reader/tipster rikyrah, we are posting sketches from some of the top designers and their visions of what Michelle, Sasha and Malia should wear. WWD fashions has 42 sketches from some of the world's top designers:
Just about everyone yearns to dress Michelle, who could raise the profile of American fashion around the world. Yet with the exception of Maria Cornejo, her current favorites, as well as a few majors, declined WWD’s request for sketches. ... Read More

Okay, I admit it, I didn't really anticipate President-Elect Obama's speeches over the campaign trail half as much as I anticipated seeing what Michelle Obama was going to wear, her makeup, and her hair. So I was over on Shakesville and I saw a post called The Marginalization of Michelle Obama. Well this IS Michelle Obama Watch so I read it and the author posits that by expressing out disappointment in Michelle Obama's election-night attire, we are ignoring her professional accomplishments. He ... Read More
