I want to take this opportunity to thank Heather Wood Rudúlph, co-founder and editor of SirensMag.com, for setting out the top 5 reasons why all women should love soon to be First Lady, Michelle Obama.

Reason #1: She’s a good mother.
Reason #2: She’s smarter than you.
Reason #3: She’s a realistic fashion icon
Reason #4: She’s a feminist.
Reason #5: She’s a [B]lack woman.

I encourage you to read the impassioned and compelling arguments put forth by Rudolph here. Perhaps you will find yourself “gushing” right along with Rudolph as she urges no one to “underestimate the power of Michelle’s image and presence in the White House:

…a descendent of slaves will be hosting White House dinners!—is an extremely powerful image for our country, and for the world.

Yes, thank you Heather for giving your permission and providing us with 5 reasons for women to “love” our new First Lady who has so aptly been named by the Secret Service Renaissance. I only hope that the next article you elect to write about Michelle Obama would be entitled Two Reasons to Respect Michelle Obama:

Reason #1: She is the First Lady of the United States.
Reason #2: She commands it.

Call me crazy, but I would amend the title to say “Five Reasons All Women (and people borne of women) Should Love Michelle”

You can suggest that “She’s a realistic fashion icon.” In my family, none of the women can wear Michelle’s fashions, or could at 18. But, they can all identify with her frustration with pantyhose and her insistence on keeping things simple.

Both Barack and Michelle are amazing, accomplished, incredible people.

  2. I don’t five reasons to love Michelle Obama…LOL

  3. Everything about Michelle makes me smile. She’s incredible!

MICHELLE OBAMA IS BRILLIANT, she deserve’s to be in the WHITE HOUSE, she has earned her stripe’s, michelle has earned the right to be the FIRST LADY, this black woman had to hold her peace, when the media was persecuting her husband, michelle obama had to smile, when I know she felt like crying, so as a AFRICAN AMERICAN woman I would cry for her, i would pray ” lord please don’t let this strong woman break” and michelle obama held her head high, and took her lump’s, michelle obama and her husband was on a mission, they had to put feeling’s aside, and run the good race, their is no other woman in the year 2008, that was able to take, MICHELLE OBAMA’S CROWN, it was ordered for her.

She is racist against whites. She was never proud of America until her husband was elected. She sat in a church for 20 years while her minister spewed hate. She can’t claim racism anymore, so what is she going to do with her life?

@ Mattie, agree with you 100%

@ Leisa, “what is she going to do with her life?”? Go down in history as First Lady of the United States.

Let’s clear up this Jeremiah Wright thing right now. I have heard Dr. Jeremiah Wright speak on several occasions, and he is a far from the hatemonger that the media portrayed him as. Leisa, you’re wrong. Nothing could be further from the truth. Dr. Wright is a man who loves others and this country so deeply that he wasn’t afraid to deliver a sermon that challenged the moral decisions that this country has made at the expense of other countries. Dr. Wright was crucified for speaking truth. To love America is to stand by it but to speak the truth about what things are ungodly and that need change. This is what Jesus does for us. And there is no greater love than that.

Enough about that: Michelle is fabulous and every woman on the face of this Earth should walk a little higher because she is the First Lady. She’s an awesome example of womanhood and leadership.

I would add a #6 to the list. She’s a GOOD WIFE. For many of the reasons Mattie stated. She supports her husband. Let’s learn from her, ladies and support our men.

I love that she is the modern woman.

She has a thriving career and a large part of her marriage made more money than her husband.
She is a thoughtful, caring, and loving mother.
She has goals and dreams and passions that she genuinely cares for and is working towards.

I am a white woman and I look up to her as a woman, a mother, and as a professional. I love the fact that she is SO strong and independant while being a loving and supportive wife. I find myself unable to tear myself away from articles about her and end up watching video after video of her speeches, interviews, anything really.

I think she is exactly what we need as a first lady because she exudes the reality that women can have successful careers, be great mothers, and supportive wives at the same time without sacrificing themselves.

I admire Michelle for all the reasons stated, but also because she seems completely genuine. I love the way she speaks from the heart. I can’t remember the last time I heard such a public person who struck me as an genuine person, not a media creation. She radiates confidence because she is just being herself. And of course, she is a beautiful and intelligent woman, and a loving wife and mother. That’s a good example for our nation to have. Not that it matters, but I’m white.

    Michelle made her choice.

If she continues on the path she has chosen, she will be like at the end of these 4 or 8 years like Laura Bush, not much to talk about.

She has chosen to be a shadow during her husband’s presidency to appease those who can’t handle strong career oriented women that are also mothers; which based on posts on this website are the vast majority of women.

People that don’t believe that you can put your family first (without having to proclaim so) and also be a strong presence in the world outside of your home.

I love Michelle, she is someone with brains and character and class that I look up to. And I love this website. So glad I found it. Thanks.

For all of the people that have your isms about the Obama’s, I hope that you all give up the discord and embrace how extraordinary they really are. In order to extraordinary you have to do “Extra” and they have done that within their state working the community circuit. They could to have been high paid attorneys in some of the largest firms in the world but keeping with the culture of who they are they chose to serve the public on the largest spectrum, by becoming President. They are very humble people but their dreams and hopes for us as a people and this country as a whole are very audacious. The non-rich citizens took one for the team over and over and over again while Bush did everything possible to bog this country in biggest and deepest mud puddle known to man. Therefore we ask you all to sit back and let the new driver back this sinking vehicle called the USA out of the bog. Michelle has a very hard job now also. She is instantly become the fashionesta, model mom, relationship expert and face of every women in the world. Please don’t be fooled that she and her mother will sit around the white house waiting to have State Dinners and entertain. She is too skilled for just that but what you need to know is that whatever she does will compliment her husband. One job she has down to an art is being M.R.S. They make marriage look good. A great mother, smart with some business about herself and a power couple that shares P.D.A. President and 1st Lady Michelle have really made family and values be re-evaluated. Sophistication, Swagger and Finesse that is some cocktail and they are intoxicating.

    Peace and Grace
