Political Derby.com published a post titled “The Incredibly Shrinking Cindy McCain.” Author J. Shawn Durham essentially describes how media obsession over the “risky” Michelle Obama enables Cindy McCain to receive a pass after telling “botoxed-face lies.”

Cindy McCain says that she was an only child. But that’s not true. Lady McCain has not just one, but two sisters. In fact, as Wednesday’s Washington Post reports, late patriarch and beer distribution king John Hensley favored and acknowledged Cindy McCain’s existence and left her the bulk of his empire although he did sire two other daughters.

The only child gaffe highlights a major problem with the tenor of the 2008 presidential campaign. The campaign has been framed as a referendum on the Obamas, which is fair since Barack Obama has been on the political scene only a fraction of John McCain’s senatorial tenure. But forget the Obamas for a moment. In light of Cindy McCain’s lies, what do we know about the McCains?

In spite of the inflammatory language that peppers Durham’s post, the point remains valid. As potential First Lady, Cindy McCain has enjoyed a certain freedom from the negative limelight because the media is far more distracted by Michelle Obama’s potential residency in the White House.

    But you have to admit, Michelle put herself out there in a way that Cindy hasn’t. Little wonder she’s attracting so much attention.

    I don’t think Michelle has attracted lies and smears no matter what way she’s put herself out there. Attention, ok. derogatory insults for sport? Hell no. That goes for Michelle, Cindy or Hillary for that matter. Its just not right. Now if you are spinning lies and tall-tales, well…all bets are off. To my knowledge, Michelle hasn’t made any false statements about herself or Barack. But Cindy and Hillary treading on some real thin ice. In fact they just released information that the story of meeting Mother Theresa when Cindy adopted their daughter, may not have actually happened. Why she gotta lie on Momma Tee like that?? Dang.
