I don’t know what a “freeze mob” is, but they had one in Chicago for Michelle Obama’s MORE cover. Apparently 105 people showed up holding a copy of MORE magazine with Michelle Obama on the cover. I am trying to figure out where to put all of these Michelle Obama covers. Here is the video from the freeze mob.

    A flash mob is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual action for a brief time, then quickly disperse.

    A freeze mob could be a subset of a flash mob…which were all the rage a few years ago…anyway, point is AWESOME

    I am delighted that people responded to the cover, but truly saddened that MORE felt the need to use retouching to lighten Michelle’s skin tone for the cover. We have enough color-based racism in our lives as black women and I love Michelle just as she is, gorgeous chocolate complexion and all.

    Think about it, they would never lighten up Sarah Palin and make her a blond.

    she looks the same color as she does on the other magazines i have with her on them…i don’t think they lightened her skin…she looks as chocolate as ever to me

    I’ve seen Angela Bassett’s and Janet Jackson’s skin tones vary from setting to setting.

    I chalk it up to photographer experience, lighting used, type of makeup, and whether or not the subject’s been out in the sun.

    I wonder if the term “freeze mob” might not be a film production term for the “freeze” shots they do of the assembled mob — those moments where suddenly everyone is frozen. In some of the shots, they are frozen in identical positions. But in others, the freeze is more choreographed and everyone is caught looking slightly different.
